I Am His Mic
By Bernard King
Every voice has a story. Every microphone holds a memory.
What if the microphone that carried the voice of a hip-hop legend could finally tell its own story?
In I Am His Mic, Bernard King presents an imaginative literary tribute to Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, through the eyes of an unlikely storyteller—his microphone.
From the hallways of Brooklyn to underground hip-hop cyphers, recording studios, and spiritual journeys across continents, the microphone becomes a silent witness to an artist's search for truth, identity, freedom, and purpose.
Through poetic storytelling and powerful reflections, King explores the deeper meaning behind conscious hip-hop, the influence of Black culture, the importance of ancestral remembrance, and the spiritual connection between an artist and his voice.
More than a story about music, I Am His Mic is a celebration of authenticity, artistic expression, and the power of words to inspire generations.
The music may stop. The stage may go dark. But a voice rooted in truth will always resonate.
An independent fictional tribute inspired by the artistry and cultural legacy of Yasiin Bey. This is not an authorized autobiography or official biography.
